Crockery Has Survived in Popularity For Thousands of Years
From clay comes crockery or earthenware. Since it has not been fired to the point of vitrification, a glass like state, it is slightly porous. The crockery is made waterproof by the application of a layer of liquid clay mixture prior to the second firing. It gets its color of red, buff or brown coming from clay found in the ground.
The word croc dates back to around 1000 AD by written record. It was created into vessels for beer around 4000 BC. Old English defined earthenware or crockery as potter. Vessels such as jars, jugs, pitchers and pots were produced. Painted earthenware was produced by most of the Ancient Medieval, Middle Eastern and European.
Many different cultures used earthenware or crockery. Egyptians drank beer from earthenware vessels while building the pyramids. Crockery was used by virtually every culture on earth. Today it has many uses and remains very much in demand. It has derived from its early uses to include plates, various tableware and servers.
Crockery, earthenware still maintains its popularity today, and it sought after by many collectors. In some cases it can be very valuable. The customary colors of ancient times have survived, but other colors are now also being produced. Yet it has survived some of its ancient characteristics and is produced in various forms and styles to date.
Worldwide you can find earthenware being produced and exported to places around the world. It still remains a part of every culture. You can find it in virtually every home and business establishment in one form or another. It is used outdoors as well as indoors in vases, sculptures and other furnishings.

old water jugs that were made of stoneware and outside was metal?
the inside of these pinic jugs were stoneware the same as
redwing crocks were made of.
Tin glaze reached England via the Netherlands about 1550. At first it was called gallyware, but, with the rise of the Dutch manufacturing centre at Delft, the ware came to be called delft. Its popularity was due to the fact that it could be painted in bright colours. The earliest surviving examples are the Malling jugs, so called because an early specimen of the kind was preserved in the church at West Malling, Kent. These were almost certainly made in London. The colour varies from turquoise to black; a variety with a blue ground flecked with orange was probably suggested by the tigerware from the Rhineland. The jugs usually have silver or pewter mounts. Similar mounts, often of English manufacture, are to be seen on Rhenish jugs imported into England and occasionally on Turkish jugs of about the same period.
