What culture would be good for my pottery project...?
I have to make three pieces after an ancient culture of my choice that resemble each other...all done with the slab method. I would like to do something creative but I find that I'm not as good at slab as the other methods. What would be a good culture for me to choose? I was thinking Celtic or something along that line but I've had a hard time finding pictures of pottery from that time. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please remember I have to do it with the slab method...
if you are interested in more figurative projects look into the japanese haniwa. I think they may have been originally made using coils, but I think using slabs would work even better. Their shape varies from just cylinders to complex structures, so would give you a lot of freedom for your design.
Also I don't think they are that well known in the western world (assuming that's where you live), so not everybody else in your class will base their project on them.
